It all started in January 2020, when we set off on an adventure aboard our Chevrolet Express, which we had completely converted (with a lot of help from Rick, Virginie's father).
The idea: to take a ski and climbing trip across the United States, with no return date.
But as in any good vanlife story... nothing happened as planned – and that's what changed everything.
From skiing... to the sun of Mexico
After several weeks of driving and snow, we decided to make a surprise detour to Mexico, where friends were on a climbing trip. We were supposed to stay there for a week. In the end, we stayed there for a month.
Why? Because of Pancho, a little stray dog we met there. It was impossible to leave him behind. So we went through all the processes to adopt him and bring him back with us. That's when vanlife took an unexpected turn.
The pandemic, a hasty return, and a new beginning
In the heart of the California mountains, the pandemic hit. We had to return to Quebec faster than expected. And since we no longer had an apartment (thank you Pancho), we decided to settle in the Laurentians, to be closer to nature and the outdoors.
Alex went back to work as an engineer. For her part, Virginie started converting vans. After two complete projects, one observation kept coming back: it was almost impossible to find suitable and effective insulated window covers.
Sewing a solution
Since childhood, Virginie has always been used to using the sewing machine, especially to create costumes or alter clothes. When she started converting vans, she was the one who made her insulated window covers. Then, friends who were working on their own conversion asked her to make some for them. It was at that moment that she realized that there was a real need in the community.
That's where Overnight Van Supplies was born: from a real need, personal know-how, and a desire to create quality products, designed by people who truly live the vanlife.
Three months later, Alexandre quit his engineering job to dedicate himself full-time to the company. Since then, we have been working together to offer durable, well-designed products made here in Quebec.
